Celebrate the end of the year, as you review math and literacy skills, with The Ice Cream Shop Mystery End of the Year Escape Room! Your students will be highly engaged as they complete 6 or 8 different challenges to eliminate the suspects and discover who has stolen the sundae supplies!

These Ice Cream Day Escape Room activities can be used for an Ice Cream Day, an End of Year Party or end of the year themed math and literacy centers.

Set the stage with a note from the ice cream shop attendant:

Solve each challenge,

Along the way.

So we can build,

A big sundae!

After the students complete each challenge, they will receive a clue from the culprit. A suspect will be eliminated after each challenge. Once all of the ice cream day centers have been completed, they will have eliminated all but one suspect!

There are 4 math and 4 literacy ice cream day activities included. Black and white option included. Targeted skills:

recognizing rhymes
counting syllables
identifying digraphs
isolating medial sounds
1:1 counting and subitizing numbers 1-10
adding fluently within 6
modeling subtraction problems
extending patterns

The Challenges:

Spoon Challenge - Count the syllables for each picture.
Sundae Challenge - Use ice cream scoops to model each number sentence. Solve the problem and write the answer.
Milkshake Challenge - Listen for the beginning digraph (ch, sh, th, wh), and sort each picture under the correct milkshake.
Scoop Challenge - Count the scoops and match it to the correct ten frame cone.
Truck Challenge - Listen for the middle sound, and sort each picture under the correct ice cream truck.
Sprinkles Challenge - Model the subtraction problem by covering the correct number of sprinkles. Solve the problem and write the answer.
Cone Challenge - Match the pictures that rhyme to build each ice cream cone.
Popsicle Challenge - Say the pattern. Then, extend each pattern.
