Pretty in Pastel Classroom Makeover Reveal
We kicked off the summer of 2025 in the sweetest way—with our first classroom makeover of the year! This time, we headed to sunny Fort Worth, Texas, to surprise a Kindergarten teacher with a dreamy transformation for her and her students. She told us she loved pastels, so of course, we brought her vision to life with our Pretty in Pastel classroom decor collection! From a cozy classroom library to functional centers, we made sure her space had all the Kindergarten must-haves—wrapped up in a palette of soft florals, ginghams and stripes, and calming pastels. Ready to see the magic? Let’s take a tour of our Pretty in Pastel Classroom Makeover Reveal—through the centers, key areas, and all the pastel-perfect details in between!
Centers of the Classroom
Whole Group Section
A central whole group learning area is truly the heart of any classroom! This space typically includes a classroom rug for students to gather on, a whiteboard, and a projector (if available) for large-scale displays and instruction. It’s the go-to spot for modeling, collaboration, and whole-class learning—and it can even function as a center when students use the board or carpet for interactive activities!
In this Pretty in Pastel classroom makeover, we created a welcoming and focused whole group area with a rug, cozy pillows, and a bulletin board calendar set up for morning meetings! We made sure that all student desks have a clear line of vision to this space so that whether students are learning from their seats or the rug, this space is easily visible!
Small Group Section
Every Kindergarten teacher knows that small group time is where so much learning and connection happens! In this room, we set up the small group area so students face the teacher and a simple wall behind them to help reduce distractions, while still allowing the teacher to keep an eye on the rest of the class. It’s positioned near the teacher desk and a small dividing wall, which gives the space a slightly more tucked-away feel. Every classroom layout is different, but these are just a few things to keep in mind when thinking through your setup!
This area also works perfectly as a center—whether the teacher is leading a small group or students are working independently. Just add a bin of materials or a simple task, and it instantly becomes a focused learning space for hands-on practice, games, or skill review!
Pastel Classroom Library
We cannot get over this classroom library! Using IKEA shelves and storage units, we created a little library sanctuary that feels like its own special nook! The shelves and bench not only provide functional, aesthetic storage—they also help define the space, creating a natural boundary during center time. With simple book bins labeled using our Pastel Library Labels, a soft rug, cozy pillows, open floor seating, and the cutest flexible seating options, this spot is the perfect place for young readers to curl up, get comfy, and fall in love with reading!
Writing Center
Having a designated writing space—especially in an early childhood classroom like Kindergarten is so important! A writing center gives students a clear, consistent space where they know exactly what to do when they sit down, helping them get in the zone. We used our Writing Banner to set the scene and made sure to leave open space on the bulletin board to display visual supports like an alphabet chart, sight words, seasonal vocabulary poster, and any other reference tools students may need!
We also stocked the center with fun and engaging writing materials—because let’s be honest, colorful crayons and markers go a long way in motivating young writers! Plus, at this stage, writing is just as much about drawing as it is about words. Illustrating helps students tell their stories, add details, and connect their ideas with print to text—supporting early writing development by reinforcing concepts of print, sequencing, and comprehension!
This area is not only great for guided practice, but also works perfectly as an independent center where creativity can shine!
Dramatic Play Spaces
In this Pretty in Pastel classroom makeover, we broke dramatic play into three separate areas to create more flexibility, reduce crowding during purposeful play and indoor recess, and offer multiple spaces that can double as centers! Whether it’s counting play money at the farmers market or using the carpet for hands-on math with manipulatives, these areas are designed to support both creativity and learning!
In the first space, we set up a Farmers Market Dramatic Play Stand—perfect for seasonal learning and Fall thematic units! This setup encourages role play, social interaction, and real-world connections, and can easily be swapped out each season to stay fresh and aligned with current classroom themes! We also used this space as a full learning corner, adding number cards, color posters, shape cards, and even an adorable student work display to build a sense of classroom community!
In the second area, we used a charming play cottage as an entry into the most adorable dramatic play kitchen setup! (You can achieve this look with our Classroom Cottage Tapestry or printable cottage pdf to use as a cutout, project onto a wall for painting or tracing, or any other creative combination you can think of!) This space can be used on its own or as an extension of the seasonal play area. The best part? Students take the lead with open-ended, imaginative play that can shift with their interests.
The third section features a soft classroom rug, perfect for floor play with blocks, play vehicles, and so much more. Surrounded by plenty of organized storage for toys and games, this space is a go-to for both playtime and learning. Its open design also makes it ideal for a floor-based center or small group work using manipulatives.
Student Desks
Arranging student desks is no easy task—but it’s one of the most important parts of classroom setup! Since collaboration and social interaction are key in the early years, we chose grouped desks for this room, and bonus—they have dry-erase tops for interactive learning! We arranged the tables so every student has a clear view of the front board, while also keeping wide, open paths for easy movement around the room.
These desk tables also work perfectly for centers—whether each student is working independently at their own seat, or each table is set up as its own center for small group rotations. The possibilities are truly endless!
We made each group easy to keep track of and flow with any management system using our Pastel Table Numbers!
More Pastel-Perfect Spaces in the Classroom
Teacher Desk
Pretty and functional? Yes, please! This teacher desk setup is everything—packed with all the tools and organization a teacher needs. From lesson plans to labels, it's all right here. We framed posters to elevate the wall decor and added mini framed cutouts on the desk for a cute, on-theme touch of inspiration. Plus, the teacher toolbox and rolling cart are within arm’s reach, making planning and daily routines a breeze!
Calming Corner
A calming corner isn’t just cute—it’s essential! Having a dedicated space where students can take a breath, reset, and practice social-emotional learning strategies is especially important in Kindergarten, where big feelings happen daily and self-regulation is still developing.
Affirmation Station
Because students should hear kind words every day! This little nook is filled with confidence-boosting phrases and heartwarming notes that lift up every learner. Not only does our Affirmation Station encourage positive self-talk, self-worth, and kindness toward others—it also helps build vocabulary in the sweetest, most meaningful way!
Hydration Station
Yes—it’s as cute as it sounds! This new tool isn’t just for managing the never-ending water bottle chaos (we see you, teachers!)—it’s also a simple and effective classroom management win. We set up a Hydration Station with labeled spots for each student’s bottle, giving hydration a pastel-perfect makeover. We placed it right near the door, since students are constantly grabbing their bottles on the way to specials, lunch, recess, or to refill in the hallway. With a clear system and a few easy-to-follow rules, students know exactly what’s expected, helping your day flow smoother and your space stay calmer!
Classroom Jobs
Giving students ownership is key in Kinder! We created a Classroom Jobs board that’s easy to use and oh-so-aesthetic! Putting your students' names on the pencils that easily slip into each job category makes choosing and moving them around so easy!
Calendar & Morning Meeting Set Up
We’re so obsessed with our calendars that we couldn’t pick just one—we also included our Pocket Chart Calendar set with the dreamy Summer Skies Blue pocket Chart!
